History of DWS

Originally constructed in 1914 as New Athletic Field, Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field is the second oldest stadium in the NCAA football bowl division (FBS), and the fourth oldest in all of college football.  New Athletic Field hosted its first game on October 3, 1914, a 54-0 Mississippi State win over Marion Military Institute.  It was renamed to Scott Field in 1920 following a student petition to name the field after Donald Scott, an olympic runner.  Prior to the 2001 football season, the stadium was officially named Davis Wade Stadium after Floyd Davis Wade Sr., a longtime Mississippi State supporter.  Today, Davis Wade Stadium carries on countless MSU traditions and continues to play host to all Bulldog football home games.

The article above describes the process of getting the stadium ready to host football in its 108th year of existence.  One can only imagine how this process has evolved and improved since the first grounds-crew worked on New Athletic Field in 1914.
